Stack House & Supply Laundry

Situated in the Cascade neighborhood of South Lake Union, and centered around a vintage commercial laundry smokestack, Stack House Apartments and Supply Laundry Building comprises a full-block mixed-use development with 278 residential units, 23,000 square feet of office space and 13,000 square feet of retail. The LEED Platinum-certified project includes 20% affordable housing, and the renovated Supply Laundry Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

To balance historic preservation goals along with an energy efficient design, Vulcan Real Estate entered into a three-way partnership with the City of Seattle and the National Trust for Historic Preservation to develop a performance-based energy model. As such, the historic structure is designed and successfully operated using at least 50% less energy than the national average for a building of its size and type of use.

An additional partnership with Seattle Public Utilities included the development of Swale on Yale, large-scale biofiltration swales along the east and west margins of the site. These wide, shallow channels are designed to treat 190 million gallons of storm water annually and to naturally filter more than 90% of pollutants from storm water before it enters Lake Union.
