Decidedly Green
Arbor Blocks in South Lake Union is a sustainable urban office development comprised of two buildings separated by a “woonerf” – a Dutch word that refers to a street where pedestrians and bicycles have priority over motor vehicles. With approximately 390,000 square feet of Class-A office space, and supporting retail and amenities, the project integrates modern building amenities alongside community-oriented green spaces.
Between the two structures, a reimagined 8th Avenue North has been transformed into the world’s first Salmon Safe-certified woonerf, featuring increased setbacks, widened sidewalks, and a curved roadway. These design features prioritize public right-of-way and encourage foot and bicycle traffic over motor vehicles.
Throughout Arbor Blocks, sculptural seating and public artwork create a space that transitions the surrounding urban landscape to an engaging pedestrian experience.
