MARINA INFORMATION


History

1854: Thomas Mercer proposes the names Lake Union and Lake Washington "for the small and big lakes" at 4th of July Ceremony
1862: Temperature dropped to four degrees below zero—Lake Union froze over solidly
1871: Christmas Day first trail run of "The Ant," the narrow gauge coal railroad from south end of Lake Union to Pike Street Pier
1882: David Denny opens his Western Mill at the south end of Lake Union
1886: From Pike Street the Horse Trolley reaches Lake Union and pier built to service small lake steamers
1887: Depot Street renamed Denny Way/Seattle Lake Shore and Eastern Railroad reaches north end of Lake Union from Seattle Waterfront
1890: Electric Trolley reaches Lake Union on Westlake and continues to Fremont on viaduct built along east shore of the lake
1916: Bill Boeing tests his company's first plane, the B&W "Bluebill," from its hanger on Lake Union
1917: After New York, the Port of Seattle become the busiest port in the nation. Also, during the same year, the Lake Washington Ship Canal (connects Lake Union to Puget Sound) is opened
1942: Naval Reserve Armory dedicated at south end of Lake Union.

Building Description

Chandlers Cove consists of one two-story and two one-story buildings featuring 40,984 square feet of retail space surrounding an inviting pedestrian plaza, and a marina offering 1,894 linear feet of moorage.

H. C. Henry Pier consists of a two-story building incorporating 16,968 square feet of retail space and a marina offering 2,963 linear feet of moorage.
