Sound Transit
The Seattle streetcar will provide South Lake Union with a direct connection to Sound Transit's Central Link at the Westlake transit hub.
About Central Link
This initial 14-mile light rail line will serve downtown Seattle, the industrial area south of downtown, and residential and commercial neighborhoods in Beacon Hill, Rainier Valley, Tukwila, and SeaTac. Until the light rail station is constructed in 2011, a shuttle bus will connect passengers from the South 154th Street station to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. A shuttle ride on Sound Transit from downtown to South 154th will take only 33 minutes. Link trains will start service from downtown Seattle to South 154th Street by 2009; by 2020, they are projected to carry at least 42,500 riders each day.
Sound Transit is currently focusing on the initial 14-mile segment of the light rail line, but the Sound Transit Board remains committed to completing the 24-mile Central Link route from Northgate to SeaTac. Over the next year, Sound Transit will also evaluate alternatives for extending the link north from Convention Place to Northgate. For more information visit www.soundtransit.org.
