Vulcan's Commitment to Sustainable Practices
As long-term investors in the community, environmental responsibility is a cornerstone of our development philosophy. We focus on urban development and utilize building materials and systems that conserve natural resources.
We know that sustainable buildings offer healthier, more satisfying work and lifestyle environments, so we design and build innovative projects with natural daylight, fresh air ventilation and low-maintenance landscaping. These projects conserve water and energy and are built with environmentally sensitive materials.
Some of our residential projects include rooftop gardens that are irrigated with retained rainwater. We are also dedicated to recycling programs—on average, recycling more than 80% of waste material on our construction sites.
Vulcan Real Estate is a leader in sustainable development and has built several award-winning "high-performance" green buildings in South Lake Union that have received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council—a national organization that recognizes achievements in sustainable or "green" construction.
